Best games for PS4 and PS4 Pro in 2019
1. Red Dead Redemption 2
Price: £30 | Buy now from Amazon
The critically acclaimed developers at Rockstar always manage to outdo themselves with each new release, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is arguably their best game yet.Every detail of this game’s incredible world has been painstakingly crafted, from its characters, environments and gameplay mechanics, to create one of the most immersive and enjoyable experiences on the PS4. You will struggle to find a more engrossing game than Red Dead Redemption 2.
2. Spider-Man
Price: £25 | Buy now from Amazon
You might think you've seen enough of the web-slinger to last a lifetime, but you'd be wrong. Manhattan is your playground in this stunningly gorgeous action game from developer Insomniac Games: Peter Parker is older, wiser, and yet somehow still struggling to balance his daily life with his superhero exploits. There's a good reason Spider-Man is the best selling PS4 exclusive of all time.
3. God of War
Price: £15 | Buy now from Amazon
The reboot of the long-running hack-and-slash series is a gorgeous thing; finely crafted, fun to play and surprisingly tender in its storytelling. Kratos is older, wiser but no less adept at cleaving nasty deities from head to toe. His son, Atreus, is along for the adventure – one that sees you crossing bloody paths with Norse mythology.
4. Shadow of the Colossus
Price: £23 | Buy now from Amazon
Widely regarded as one of the finest games of all time, this is actually the second time the PS2 classic has been remade for a new generation of consoles. This time though, it's something altogether more impressive with graphics up there with the best current releases. Not bad for a game pushing 15 years old. If you haven't played it before, you're in for a treat. If you have, maybe it's time to take down those Colossi one more time...
5. Nier: Automata
Price: £20 | Buy now from Amazon
PlatinumGames' frenetic roleplaying game sees you take the role of an android tasked with fighting an ever-amassing army of cute robots, which may or may not be gaining sentience. It's an odd game, and you'll need to complete it a handful of times to unravel its madcap story, but Nier: Automata is a joy to experience. Combat is satisfying, the world is memorable and the story is gloriously strange.
6. The Last Guardian
Price: £18 | Buy now from Amazon
If you've played Ico or Shadow of the Colussus, you'll know you're in safe hands with The Last Guardian which comes from the same brilliant mind of Fumito Ueda. It's hard to summarise the exploration and puzzle elements in a short paragraph, but suffice it to say it's the emotional attachment you'll make to your partner along the way - the bird/cat/griffin hybrid Trico - which really make the game something special.
7. Bloodborne
Price: £45 | Buy now from Amazon
If you're a fan of masochism, and you don’t fancy the slower pace of From Software’s Dark Souls series, Bloodborne is the game for you. From the same mind behind the Souls series, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Bloodborne takes place in a gothic world steeped in pestilence where a plague has turned the city’s inhabitants into beasts. Now, armed with one melee weapon and a firearm, you’ve got to survive out on the streets on the night of The Hunt. Good luck…
8. Horizon Zero Dawn
Price: £16 | Buy now from Amazon
Fantastic combat mechanics and gorgeous visuals make Horizon Zero Dawn a must-play if you own a PlayStation 4. Some of the characters you'll meet along the way are hardly sketched out, but the various robo-dinosaurs you'll fight more than make up for it. This remains a great blockbuster that's 100% worth the price of entry.
9. The Last of Us Remastered
Price: £15 | Buy now from Amazon
Alright fine, so The Last of Us is technically a PS3 game. But the remastered version improved upon the original hugely on the graphical front, and let's face it: the game needed no help on the content side of things. A tearjerkingly poignant narrative is supported by some calculated, seamless mechanics to produce one of the most cinematic games ever made. With The Last of Us Part 2 just around the corner, there's never been a better time to play.
10. Gran Turismo Sport
Price: £25 | Buy now from Amazon
Gran Turismo has ever been the driving sim enthusiast's PS4 game of choice. It's the closest you'll ever get to the asphalt at Brands Hatch without purchasing a track-ready sports car, and it receives constant free updates – adding new cars, tracks, and events – from developer Polyphony Digital. Oh, and it looks absolutely gorgeous on the PS4 Pro.
