What is Chromecast

Chromecast is a device issued by Google to facilitate the connection between your computer or mobile device and TV screen. With Chromecast you can stream movies, watch Netflix series and see live sport broadcasts on your wide TV screen instead of a small screen of a laptop or a smartphone. You can as well answer calls and make video conferences using your TV screen, Chromecast device and Skype app. Here is a short guide on how to do it.

Prerequisites

To Chromecast Skype calls to TV, you will need to plug in your Chromecast device to the HDMI port of your TV and connect Chromecast and your computer or mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network.

How to Chromecast Skype Calls to TV

Skype is not one of the apps compatible with Chromecast, so you will have to use the screen mirroring option to Chromecast Skype video on your TV. To do so, use the Google Chrome browser on a computer or Google Home app on a mobile device.

Using Google Chrome Browser on a Computer

Open Google Chrome browser, click on three little dots in the top right corner to open the menu and choose Cast… tab.

Google Chrome will now search for available devices, and when it’s finished, select your Chromecast device and click on Sources > Cast desktop.

Finally, your computer screen will be mirrored on your TV screen and you can open Skype and start calling. Make sure you keep your computer close by to use its microphone and camera to be seen and heard by the group or contact you are talking to in Skype.

Using Google Home App on a Smartphone

Switch on your Chromecast device and open the Google Home app on your smartphone. Wait several seconds until your Chromecast device will appear on the home page of the app, then select it.

Next, choose Cast my screen at the bottom of the page. In the pop-up window choose Cast screen > Start now.

Your phone screen will now appear on your TV screen. You can open Skype and make video calls, just make sure that you are using your mobile camera and microphone if needed.
