How to Flip an Image in Photoshop - Transform an Outline
Do you know how to flip an image in Photoshop? Have you ever tried it? If you haven't then you are certainly missing out on some great opportunities to add quality to your pictures. How to flip an image in Photoshop is one of my favorite Photoshop tips and I often use this tip when I am adding backgrounds to my pictures. Let's say that you took a picture of your pet and decided to change its look. Instead of making the background the same color as the pet, why not make it a different color?
There are several ways to do this, but I'll show you just one of them in this article. The easiest way to accomplish this is to make a copy of your original photo. What you can do is right-click on your photo, then choose "Properties". You will see a little text box with 2 tabs; one for the layers and one for the copy.
Your copy should have been created when you opened Photoshop initially, or even if you opened Photoshop later, at least after you saved your work in the original format. Now you want to undo what you did, so let's move on to the second option; making a copy of a selected image. Your mouse button should be set to click and move the mouse over the copied image. Now you will see a three-way selection tool along the toolbar; just click on the rotate option.
Making a copy of an image horizontally and then making a copy of the same image vertically is pretty easy, but we are dealing with layers here so how do we do this? The easiest way to flip an image is to click on any of the layer's name bars. Once you have done that just double-click the image to select it from the layer list. The following step involves selecting the desired orientation for the rotated image. In order to get the desired results in Photoshop you need to make sure you have selected the correct setting - either transform crop or rotate.
After you have selected the desired action to perform, the next step is to select the new layer you want to place where the copied image is. Select the Move tool from the Edit menu. You are now going to be rotating the selected image horizontally. If you are not familiar with how to flip an image in Photoshop, this step will be very easy to follow.
If you click on the rotate button the program will show a pop-up similar to the one shown below. Select the left or right-click option to move the mouse to the appropriate sign. A small square will appear and from here, choose the rotate shift key. When you are using the free transform feature in Photoshop, there are only two steps that you must follow.
The first step is to find the first layer that has the sign and click on it to begin the selection. When you have chosen the object and clicked on the mouse to start the selection, a drop down menu will appear. Choose the image copy option and a new window will appear. Double-click the copied image to begin the transformation.
After the first selection have been made, the next step is to select the shape you would like to transform and then double click the move tool in the toolbar. A rectangular selection will appear and the second step is to drag and drop the selected shape into position where you would like it to go. Finally, select the translate and edit tools and click ok to complete the job. It's pretty simple, isn't it?
